A DAY AND NIGHT IN SEATTLE | WHAT TO DO AND WHERE TO STAY
I didn't know much about Seattle when we left from Portland so it was interesting to arrive in the city and explore around without any expectations. We planned only a day and night, a short stop before going to the Washington coast. So interesting to discover a wide art scene and super cute high-end designer clothing boutiques. Also, a great thing in Seattle is that the daylight at this time of the year lasts over 9PM, which allowed us to go shopping, visit the different districts and take a ferry to the closest islands all in the same day.
Favorite boutique - Loved loved loved the shop NUBE in the hip Capitol Hill area - It's all about local crafty gifts, artisan furniture, cosmetics, handmade bags and jewelry, un petit paradis! NUBE follows the sustainability of materials, sourcing, manufacture for each of their products. From their best-selling bags to their in-store display fixtures, every item NUBE stocks is made from sustainable materials, sourced AND crafted in the United States.
Sightseeing - The only thing I knew about Seattle was what I seen in the 90's movie "10 Things I Hate About You". So I had to check the famous Fremont Troll (located under The Aurora Bridge) which became a true city icon. The Fremont neighborhood is also known for its artsy vibe, worth to check it out! After that, we were lucky enough to get a clear blue sky and sunshine (rare in this part of the USA), ideal afternoon to take the ferry and look at the city from a different angle.
Where to stay in Seattle?
I could not tell you enough great things about the place we found on Airbnb. We booked a room in a dutch colonial style house just one day before our arrival with the "Instant booking" option on Airbnb, so easy to find a place last minute that way. The house was gorgeous, the host Jeanine and her husband so friendly and the room was a cosy little nest, so comfortable with a stunning view on downtown Seattle. The location was perfect, right around the corner of Lake Washington in the heart of Mt Baker neighborhood, not far at all from downtown but far enough to stay quiet and peaceful.
You can book Jeanine's bedroom with Airbnb here - She will welcome you as if you were family and will even cook a delicious healthy breakfast for you in the morning, please take me back, best Airbnb experience ever!
